Gardening tips for autumn planting of amaryllis and garlic
Autumn provides essential opportunities for planting specific bulbs and crops to ensure successful growth.
For those wishing to have amaryllis (Hippeastrum) in bloom for Christmas, planting should occur between October 16 and November 13, depending on room temperature. In heated rooms (20–21°C), flowering takes 6 to 8 weeks, while cooler environments (16–18°C) require 8 to 10 weeks. Successful cultivation requires using a narrow, well-drained pot and avoiding overwatering.
For garlic cultivation, autumn planting is recommended for white and purple varieties to ensure early maturity. Preparation involves leveling the soil without over-refining it to prevent compaction from winter rain. Planting should be done on raised ridges (buttes) to avoid asphyxiating the soil, with rows spaced approximately 32 cm apart.
