Garibaldi Bridge modernization enters utility relocation phase

Modernization works for the Garibaldi Bridge in Cluj-Napoca have entered a critical phase focused on the relocation of essential utility networks. According to Vice Mayor Dan Tarcea, major water, gas, and electricity lines currently crossing the Someș River via the existing bridge structure must be moved before demolition can begin.

To facilitate this, crews are finalizing the installation of micropiles in the Someș riverbed to support a temporary viaduct that will carry these utilities during the construction period. A temporary bridge is already open to traffic, ensuring continued road connectivity to the Grigorescu neighborhood.

In addition to the bridge works, construction is ongoing on Uzinei Electrice Street, where the roadway is being widened from three to four lanes to accommodate the new traffic configuration. Once the utilities are successfully relocated, the project will proceed to the demolition of the old structure and the construction of the new four-lane bridge, which will include bicycle paths and pedestrian zones.
