Overview

Modernization of the Garibaldi Bridge in Cluj-Napoca has progressed into the utility relocation phase. To prepare for the demolition of the old structure, crews are installing micropiles in the Someș riverbed to support a temporary viaduct for water, gas, and electricity lines. A temporary bridge is currently operational to maintain connectivity to the Grigorescu neighborhood, while work also continues on widening Uzinei Electrice Street.

As the project moves forward, Mayor Emil Boc has rejected a construction company’s proposal regarding traffic restrictions. While acknowledging the firm’s ability to meet deadlines and its successful installation of the temporary bridge, the mayor requested that circulation disruptions be kept to a minimum to mitigate the impact on residents. The new four-lane bridge, which will feature pedestrian zones and bicycle paths, is scheduled for completion by March 27, 2027.
