Garifuna people protest in Honduras for land rights

Garifuna communities in Honduras have established the ‘Campamento por la Vida del Pueblo Garífuna’ in Tegucigalpa to protest extractivism and defend their ancestral territories. The camp, also known as ‘Campamento Viva Berta’, serves as a site for international solidarity and organized resistance.

Protesters are demanding the release of five territory defenders detained during the eviction of the San Juan community. Additionally, they are calling for the government to comply with four sentences issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (Corte IDH) regarding the protection of Garifuna lands and rights.
