Garmin rolls out new Fenix 9 variants and updates Forerunner software

Garmin is expanding its smartwatch portfolio with the upcoming Fenix 9 series. Leaked information indicates three models – a standard Fenix 9, a Fenix 9 Pro and a Fenix 9 Pro inReach – will be offered. All variants will feature AMOLED displays, while the larger Pro versions retain MIP Solar screens for extended battery life. The Pro inReach model is expected to include LTE and satellite connectivity. A possible launch date of 25 August has been reported.

In parallel, Garmin has released a firmware update (version 29.04) for a range of older Forerunner models, including the 255, 955, 70, 170, 570, 970, 165 and 965. The update addresses synchronization bugs, improves measurement accuracy and enhances overall stability and performance.

Product reviews highlight the Vivoactive 6 as the best overall Garmin watch for new users, while the entry‑level Forerunner 70 is praised for delivering strong fitness features at a $250 price point. Together, these moves show Garmin’s strategy to cater to both casual fitness enthusiasts and serious athletes across its diverse smartwatch lineup.
