Indonesian PPPK workers demand equality in PNS transition

Indonesian government employees are demanding equality regarding the transition from Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) to Civil Servants (PNS). While current discussions focus on upgrading teacher PPPK status, non-teacher technical staff, health workers, and educational personnel are calling for equal opportunities to transition to full-time status and eventually to PNS.

Member of Commission X of the DPR RI, Abdul Fikri Faqih, noted that approximately 900,000 full-time PPPK workers may participate in a selection process in early 2027 to compete for roughly 500,000 available PNS formations. There is also a plan to transition over 230,000 part-time PPPK workers to full-time status.

Some representatives from the Indonesian Association of Government Employees with Work Agreements (AP3KI) have expressed concerns regarding perceived injustice. They have urged President Prabowo Subianto to apply the principle of social justice in resolving these transitions, arguing that full-time PPPK workers should not have to undergo rigorous selection again after already being vetted by local authorities.
