Gary Anderson: Police appeal to locate murderer on the run

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has issued a fresh appeal for information to locate Gary Anderson, a 29-year-old murderer who failed to return to prison following a temporary release on Monday, 14 September.

Anderson was sentenced in 2023 to 15 years for the 2018 murder of Karol Kelly, a father-of-five, in Derry. He was last seen around 11:00 am on Monday in the Eastway area of Creggan.

Police are conducting extensive searches, CCTV checks, and patrolling, and are liaising with An Garda Síochána to assist in the manhunt. Detective Inspector Gareth Lavery has released a more recent photograph of Anderson, describing him as approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, of slim build, with brown hair. Authorities have urged the public not to approach him directly but to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately.
