James Bond casting speculation intensifies as actors weigh in
Speculation regarding the next James Bond continues to intensify as actors and industry figures weigh in on the casting process for the Amazon MGM Studios reboot.
At the Toronto International Film Festival, Gary Oldman addressed recent rumors, clarifying that while he does not possess exclusive inside information, he is rooting for his ‘Slow Horses’ co-star Jack Lowden. Oldman praised Lowden’s qualities, noting he is ‘young, masculine, and incredibly funny,’ and suggested his Scottish heritage could serve as a nod to Sean Connery.
Former 007 Pierce Brosnan has also commented on the search, suggesting that producers might choose a ‘left-field’ option by casting an actor who is not currently a household name. Brosnan noted that he is now simply a spectator awaiting the next performer and declined to nominate a specific candidate to avoid fueling further media frenzy.
The upcoming franchise revival is expected to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Steven Knight writing the screenplay. While names such as Jack Lowden, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi have been frequently mentioned in media reports, Amazon MGM Studios has not officially confirmed any casting decisions.
