Gas heating costs projected to rise for Italian households
Estimates for the 2026-2027 winter season indicate that gas heating costs in the Abruzzo region will average 998 euros per family for raw materials. An analysis by the Switcho Observatory, based on Arera data, shows that L’Aquila expects the highest costs at 1,017 euros, followed by Pescara and Chieti. Teramo is projected to have the lowest regional expenditure at 975 euros.
The report highlights that approximately 95% of consumers in Abruzzo, representing over 470,000 users, are not currently on the most advantageous gas tariffs. Switching to more competitive market rates could result in an average regional saving of 297 euros per winter.
Nationally, data from Arera shows that September saw a 12.7% increase in spending for customers in the vulnerability protection service compared to August. Simulations suggest that families can reduce annual costs by carefully comparing fixed-price offers and monitoring contract expiration dates and monthly fixed fees.
