Gas safety authorities increase leak prevention efforts in Mexico and Argentina

Authorities and utility companies in Mexico and Argentina are intensifying efforts to prevent gas-related accidents through inspections and public safety warnings.

In Torreón, Mexico, the Civil Protection and Fire Department reported attending to 302 incidents involving L.P. gas leaks and faulty tanks or cylinders so far this year. Director Jorge Luis Juárez Llanas attributed most incidents to poor maintenance, damaged cylinders, and improvised connections. Officials are urging residents to replace hoses and regulators every two to three years and to avoid using makeshift repairs like wire or tape to contain leaks.

In Argentina, Litoral Gas has launched a systematic leak detection program throughout October. The operation involves inspecting approximately 13,000 kilometers of distribution networks and pipelines in areas including Rosario, Alvear, Acebal, and Uranga. While inspections are conducted from public spaces, the company may temporarily suspend service if leaks are detected in residential cabinets to ensure safety. Users must have repairs completed by certified technicians before service can be restored.
