Gas safety and leak prevention in Mexico and Argentina

Civil protection authorities and utility companies in Mexico and Argentina have intensified safety inspections and leak detection efforts to prevent gas-related accidents.

In Mexico, officials in Guanajuato and Coahuila reported increased risks due to seasonal demand and faulty equipment. In Guanajuato, authorities noted at least 30 gas leak incidents and one explosion involving 30-kilogram cylinders. In Torreón, the Civil Protection and Fire Department recorded 302 incidents involving L.P. gas leaks or faulty tanks so far this year, with Director Jorge Luis Juárez Llanas attributing these to poor maintenance and improvised connections. Officials are advising residents to replace hoses and regulators regularly and avoid makeshift repairs.

In Argentina, Litoral Gas initiated a systematic leak detection program in October, inspecting approximately 13,000 kilometers of distribution networks and pipelines across regions including Rosario, Alvear, Acebal, and Uranga. The company noted that service may be temporarily suspended if leaks are found in residential cabinets to ensure safety.
