San Francisco de Macorís gas tank explosion kills two, injures seven

A gas cylinder exploded at a fritura (food‑stall) in San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic, on the night of 2 August 2026. The blast caused severe burns to nine people, including three children. Two victims died: 10‑year‑old Yadiel Rosario, who suffered burns on more than 90 % of his body, and 1‑year‑old Adara Ángeles, who had burns on 30 % of her body and an inhalation injury. The injured were taken first to Hospital Dr. Ángel María Gatón, with three pediatric patients transferred to the burn unit at Hospital Infantil Regional Universitario Dr. Arturo Grullón in Santiago. Adult patients were moved to specialized burn centers in Santo Domingo. Health officials, including National Health Service director Julio César Landrón, coordinated regional emergency services and expressed condolences while the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
