Gastón Gaudio announces candidacy for Independiente presidency

Gastón Gaudio, the 2004 Roland Garros champion, has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of Club Atlético Independiente. The elections are scheduled for December 13.

Gaudio stated that his decision was contingent on securing specific conditions, most notably a major financial sponsorship. He revealed that he has secured what he describes as the largest sponsorship deal in the club’s history, following meetings with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. This agreement is intended to fund a competitive squad and improve the club’s financial standing without turning the institution into a Sports Limited Company (SAD).

His campaign includes club legend Ricardo Bochini as a sports advisor. Gaudio’s platform emphasizes professionalizing club areas and excluding individuals who he claims have harmed the institution over the last two decades. He will face several other confirmed candidates, including Luciano Nakis, Daniel Bertoni, and Enrique Sacco.
