Management and sporting transitions at Independiente

Club Atlético Independiente has experienced significant leadership and management instability following the 2022 elections. The election, which aimed to reduce the influence of the Camioneros union, resulted in the victory of the Unidad CAI alliance. However, the administration was characterized by rapid turnover, including the resignations of President Fabián Doman and Juan Marconi, leaving Néstor Grindetti to manage the presidency amidst internal friction.

In the wake of this political landscape, former tennis champion Gastón Gaudio has signaled his intention to run for the club presidency. Gaudio has indicated he is finalizing his candidacy, contingent upon securing significant sponsors and a high-level sporting director to move away from the political actors who have managed the club for two decades.

Simultaneously, the club is addressing sporting needs following the departure of striker Gabriel Ávalos. After reaching a USD 950,000 agreement with Olimpia for the early termination of Ávalos’s contract, Independiente has expressed interest in Agustín Módica, the top scorer for Gimnasia de Mendoza, to bolster its attack.
