Gastouni church burglary causes 3,000 euros in damages

Unknown perpetrators burglarized the Holy Church of Panagia Katholiki in Gastouni, Greece, during the early hours of August 15. The thieves targeted the church following a major religious festival, likely expecting significant donations to be present.

To facilitate the break-in, the suspects cut the cables for the alarm system and security cameras. After forcing entry, they removed the church's collection box and attempted to open it outside, causing extensive damage. However, church officials had already secured the bulk of the donations collected during the previous day's festivities. Consequently, the burglars escaped with only a small amount of coins.

The total damages resulting from the vandalism and the forced entry are estimated at approximately 3,000 euros. Local police are currently investigating the incident to identify the suspects.
