IIT Madras extends GATE 2027 registration deadline

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, the organizing institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, has extended the registration deadline. Candidates can now apply without a late fee until October 5, 2026. This follows a previous deadline of September 27, which was itself a revision from the original September 21 date.

Applications submitted with a late fee will be accepted until October 12, 2026. For the regular period, female and reserved category candidates (SC, ST, and PwD) must pay ₹1,000 per paper, while general, OBC, and EWS candidates must pay ₹2,000. During the late fee period, these amounts increase by ₹500 per paper.

To address technical difficulties regarding DigiLocker authentication, IIT Madras clarified that applicants with unverified accounts can still proceed by selecting the default ID proof option. The GATE 2027 examination is scheduled to take place on various dates in February 2027, specifically February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21. An application correction window will be available from October 14 to October 21, 2026.
