IIT Madras GATE 2027 administration and registration
Overview
IIT Madras is organizing the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. The examination is scheduled as a computer-based test to be held over three weekends in February 2027: February 6–7, February 13–14, and February 20–21. Following initial reports of a postponement, IIT Madras confirmed that the online application process via the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) officially opened at 7:00 PM on September 2, 2026. For Indian nationals, registration through DigiLocker is mandatory. To address technical difficulties regarding DigiLocker authentication, IIT Madras clarified that applicants with unverified accounts can still proceed by selecting the default ID proof option.
Regarding registration timelines, the deadline for applications without a late fee has been extended to October 5, 2026, following a previous revision from September 21 to September 27. Applications submitted with a late fee will be accepted until October 12, 2026. During the late fee period, costs increase by ₹500 per paper. For the regular period, female and reserved category candidates (SC, ST, and PwD) must pay ₹1,000 per paper, while general, OBC, and EWS candidates must pay ₹2,000. An application correction window is scheduled to be available from October 14 to October 21, 2026. Results are expected on March 19, 2027.
