Gayatri Jayanti 2026 observed on June 24 in India

Hindu devotees will celebrate Gayatri Jayanti 2026 on Wednesday, 24 June, the tenth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Jyeshtha. The festival honors the Vedic mother goddess Gayatri, regarded as the source of the four Vedas.

Traditional puja instructions advise an early morning bath, setting a picture of the goddess on a wooden platform, lighting a ghee lamp, and offering flowers, fruits, sweets, and other auspicious items. Devotees recite the Gayatri mantra – ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्‑सवितुर्वरेण्यं — between 27 and 1,008 times, followed by a final aarti.

Astrological timing for the day includes three auspicious muhurats: Brahma muhurat from 04:05 to 04:45 a.m., Shubh‑Uttam muhurat from 05:25 a.m. to 07:10 a.m., and Abhijit muhurat from 11:56 a.m. to 12:52 p.m. The day also features Shiva yoga until 10:53 a.m., then Siddha yoga for the remainder, and Ravi yoga from 05:25 a.m. to 04:29 p.m. Gayatri Jayanti coincides with Nirjala Ekadashi, adding further religious significance.
