Israeli Drone Strike on Gaza Funeral Parade Kills Dozens

On July 16‑17, 2026, an Israeli drone strike hit a funeral procession in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. Al‑Awda Hospital confirmed at least seven civilians were killed and 22 injured; other reports put the death toll between eight and fourteen and injuries at around twenty. Israel said the target was a “terrorist cell” and offered no further comment.

The attack occurred despite a fragile cease‑fire agreed in October 2025 between Israel and Hamas. In the same period, Israeli air and artillery strikes on residential neighbourhoods in Gaza City, including al‑Nasr and al‑Zeitoun, killed additional civilians, raising the total civilian death count since the cease‑fire to more than 1,120. Health officials in Gaza cite over 1,127 Palestinians killed and thousands injured since the conflict resumed.

Human‑rights groups and the United Nations have condemned the strike on mourners as a breach of the cease‑fire and an example of the ongoing civilian toll in the Gaza conflict.
