Israel-Palestine: ongoing ceasefire breaches and casualties
Overview
Since the October 2025 ceasefire, Israeli operations have repeatedly breached the truce. By late August 2026, the Gaza death toll reached 73,449, with over 174,472 injuries reported. Military activity has persisted for 326 consecutive days of ceasefire violations, despite a July 2026 roadmap agreement intended to stabilize the region. In early September 2026, hostilities intensified. On September 5, reports emerged of Israeli special forces conducting targeted kidnapping attempts in Gaza City and the Al-Qarara area. In Al-Qarara, a clash involving drone-supported forces resulted in the death of Fadi al-Abadla. Concurrently, eight new ceasefire violations involving artillery, drones, and naval strikes were reported in Gaza City and Khan Younis. On September 6, an Israeli drone strike on a civilian vehicle in Gaza City killed Youssef Akila and his nine-year-old daughter, Wafaa; the IDF stated the target was a Hamas militant. In central Gaza, artillery struck the Sakina School in Deir al-Balah, a shelter for displaced families, killing a seven-year-old student. Additionally, nine Palestinians were injured in Gaza City by debris from an Israeli interceptor missile mistakenly launched against a target. By September 7, the IDF reported a ceasefire violation after an explosive device detonated under an engineering vehicle in the northern enclave, prompting strikes on Hamas infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hamas accused Israel of attempting to conceal evidence of genocide by removing and transporting rubble to hide bodies and material proof. On September 9, an Israeli airstrike in the Beit Lahia area killed four members of the Ahmad family, including two children aged 8 and 12. The IDF stated the strike targeted a military structure and eliminated Muamen Abd al-Rahman Ahmad, whom they identified as a military operative. Concurrently, intense military activity involving heavy gunfire, artillery, and quadcopter drones was reported in the Jabalia refugee camp.
