Gaza children face survival and mental health crisis despite ceasefire

Approximately ten months after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, children in Gaza continue to face severe survival challenges and psychological trauma. According to SOS Children's Villages, military attacks persist, resulting in child fatalities, and the humanitarian situation remains critical.

About 1.9 million of Gaza's 2.1 million residents are displaced, with many living in overcrowded tents or emergency shelters. Children face inadequate protection, extreme heat, and poor hygiene. Reports indicate that 82% of families suffer from water shortages, forcing children to spend their time queuing for water and bread rather than attending school or playing.

The psychological impact is profound; United Nations data suggests that nine out of ten children and adolescents in the region require mental health support. Common symptoms include trauma, withdrawal, behavioral changes, sleep disorders, and panic attacks due to displacement and loss.
