Gaza City cafe strike kills several Palestinians amid Hamas commander targeting

An Israeli military strike on a cafe near the Gaza City port has resulted in the deaths of at least six to seven Palestinians, including at least one child. The attack targeted the ‘En los buenos y malos tiempos’ establishment in a busy area frequented by displaced persons and locals visiting the waterfront.

The Israeli Army stated that the operation in the Al-Shati neighborhood was intended to target several Hamas commanders who were allegedly planning attacks against Israeli soldiers in the coastal region. While Palestinian sources reported the cafe strike, the Israeli military did not immediately confirm the specific target of the cafe bombing.

The incident occurs amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to implement a Gaza ceasefire plan. US negotiator Jared Kushner recently met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem for approximately four hours to discuss the next steps of a potential agreement. Disagreements remain regarding the handling of Hamas weapons, with Israel demanding their complete removal from the Gaza Strip while other proposals suggest they remain under Palestinian control.
