Gaza civilian death toll exceeds 1,000 despite ceasefire, UN reports worsening humanitarian crisis

Since the ceasefire signed in October, Palestinian health authorities say over 1,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip, including more than 250 children. Israeli airstrikes continue to target civilian areas, and at least three people were killed in a recent strike on a vehicle on the main Omar al‑Mokhtar road.

The United Nations reports that the humanitarian situation remains extremely fragile. Around 21,000 aid trucks have entered Gaza – about 108 per day, a 72% increase compared to the pre‑ceasefire period – delivering food, water and medical supplies. Nevertheless, 70% of the population lack adequate shelter, many hospitals are not fully operational, and 1.1 million children still face daily water shortages.

Israeli forces now control more than 60% of the territory, and four Israeli soldiers have been killed since the truce began. Diplomatic contacts involving mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey continue behind the scenes, while UN officials stress that aid must not be used as a bargaining chip.
