Gaza: Concerns rise over removal of rubble containing deceased Palestinians

Reports indicate that Israel is removing thousands of tons of rubble and debris from Gaza, which reportedly includes the bodies of deceased Palestinians. EU diplomats have informed analysts that these remains are being moved without clear processes for identification or documentation, raising concerns that the scale of fatalities is being obscured.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has previously warned that thousands of Palestinians buried under ruins may never be identified. Gaza health authorities estimate between 10,000 and 14,000 people remain under the rubble. Challenges to identification include a lack of heavy excavation equipment and DNA analysis tools within the Gaza Strip.

Concurrently, debates have emerged regarding the severity of famine in the region. While some political figures have shared reports suggesting that recent UNICEF data shows low rates of acute malnutrition among children, medical experts argue that such improvements can occur rapidly if food aid is provided, and that current data does not invalidate previous famine classifications.
