Gaza destruction revealed by satellite imagery

Satellite imagery from Google Maps and Google Earth reveals the extensive scale of destruction across the Gaza Strip, including Rafah, Khan Yunis, and Gaza City. Comparisons between pre-war landscapes and current views show densely populated neighborhoods and green spaces transformed into vast areas of rubble and cleared land.

According to UNOSAT, as of June 2026, approximately 201,290 structures—representing 82% of Gaza's buildings—have sustained damage. Of these, 134,422 are classified as destroyed. Furthermore, a joint assessment by the United Nations, the World Bank, and the European Union estimated that 371,888 homes have been damaged or destroyed.

The economic impact is substantial. Physical damage to infrastructure is estimated at $35.2 billion, while the total cost for recovery and reconstruction over the next decade is projected to reach between $71.4 billion and $71.5 billion. Additionally, 92% of businesses in Gaza have been affected or destroyed, and only 1.5% of cultivable land remains available for use.
