Gaza elderly face extreme hardship in displacement tents
Elderly women in the Gaza Strip are facing extreme hardships due to forced displacement and the ongoing war. Many have lost their homes and are now living in makeshift tents that lack basic necessities such as food, water, gas, and financial resources.
Hanan Abu Arab, who moved from a five-story house to a tent made of tarpaulin and wood, reports that her shelter fails to protect her from rainwater. She struggles with chronic conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, and back problems. Similarly, 85-year-old Fatima Khalil Ibrahim Abu Tayr, displaced from Abasan al-Kabira to Khan Younis, faces severe mobility and heart issues, requiring assistance for basic tasks like using the bathroom.
The testimonies highlight a broader humanitarian crisis for the elderly in Gaza, who face deteriorating health and a lack of stable shelter amidst the conflict.
