Gaza faces $80 billion in losses and extreme humanitarian crisis

Gaza is facing a catastrophic humanitarian and economic crisis as military operations and infrastructure destruction render the territory increasingly unlivable. UNRWA health department head Akihiro Seita reported that the living environment has fallen apart, with residents facing dire hygiene conditions, infectious diseases, and persistent malnutrition. Some infants previously affected by famine have shown developmental delays in walking and talking.

Economic losses in Gaza have surpassed $80 billion across 15 vital sectors. According to the Gaza Government Media Office, approximately 90% of essential infrastructure has been affected. The destruction includes 3,000 kilometers of roads, 700 kilometers of water pipelines, and 700 kilometers of sewage networks. Additionally, 725 main water wells and 134 freshwater projects have been taken out of service.

The Israeli military is believed to control a significant portion of the territory, with reports suggesting control over 70% to 80% of the area. This has forced approximately 2 million residents into the remaining territory, many of whom are living in tents with limited access to food, clean water, and medical supplies.
