Gaza faces cash shortages and humanitarian aid challenges

The Gaza Strip is facing a multifaceted humanitarian crisis involving both physical aid shortages and a growing digital financial crisis. A severe shortage of physical cash has emerged, driven by the restriction of monetary supplies into Palestinian banks. This has forced a shift toward digital banking applications and electronic wallets. Many merchants are now reportedly refusing cash payments or charging high commissions for cash transactions, creating a state of commercial paralysis and leaving residents vulnerable to the potential freezing of digital assets.

In response to the broader humanitarian situation, the Egyptian Committee in Gaza is providing ongoing relief efforts. Spokesperson Mohamed Mansour stated that Egyptian aid convoys, including food and health parcels, are essential for supporting the resilience of the more than two million Palestinians living in the territory. The committee is also implementing winter preparedness plans, clearing rubble from schools and universities, and supporting educational initiatives for students and orphans.
