Gaza faces food shortages as Israel halts commercial shipments

Prices for essential goods in Gaza are rising sharply following a five-day period of Israeli restrictions on the import of commercial goods. The halt in shipments follows a dispute regarding fees between Palestinian merchants and Hamas.

Families in the enclave have begun stockpiling available items due to fears of imminent shortages and further price hikes. Residents without the financial means to purchase goods in bulk are expected to be most affected by the daily increases.

In northern Gaza, local reports indicate significant price surges for staples. For example, the cost of a carton of eggs rose from 35 shekels to between 60 and 70 shekels, while the price of onions increased from approximately five or six shekels to between eight and 10 shekels per kilogram.
