Gaza children face severe medical and humanitarian crisis

Children in the Gaza Strip are facing a profound humanitarian crisis characterized by high mortality rates and a lack of medical access. According to recent statistics, more than 21,000 children have been killed in the conflict. The mortality rate for children under five has reportedly increased tenfold since 2023.

Medical evacuations for children have declined significantly. Save the Children reported that child evacuations for treatment fell by 75% compared to the first year of the conflict. Currently, approximately 21,000 Palestinians, including about 5,000 children, are wounded or ill and awaiting permission to seek medical care abroad. Only 19 of the 38 hospitals in Gaza remain operational, and many function at limited capacity due to damage and shortages of medicine.

In Egypt, the “Little Gaza” safe space supports 750 children, but faces potential closure next year due to funding shortages. Meanwhile, displaced populations face extreme living conditions, with 94% of the population displaced and many living in overcrowded tents or damaged buildings. Humanitarian organizations report that 93% of those seeking aid through helpline services are unable to meet basic needs.
