Gaza Health Ministry warns of hospital generator fuel and oil depletion
The Gaza Health Ministry has announced that fuel and lubricating oil reserves required to operate hospital generators have been exhausted. This shortage threatens to cause an immediate mechanical collapse of existing generators, which would disrupt electricity supplies to critical, life-saving medical units.
According to the ministry, hospitals in the Gaza Strip require more than 2,500 liters of oil per month to maintain operations. The high consumption rate is attributed to extended operating hours and the urgent need for emergency maintenance. The ministry warned that previous emergency supplies were insufficient to sustain long-term operations.
Authorities have issued an urgent call to all relevant institutions to fulfill their humanitarian responsibilities by ensuring the immediate delivery of fuel and spare parts. The lack of supplies directly threatens patients whose lives depend on medical devices powered by these generators. Since October 2023, conflict in the region has resulted in over 74,000 Palestinian deaths and the destruction of approximately 90 percent of the area's infrastructure.
