Gaza health system collapses as conflict devastates hospitals

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has led to a systemic collapse of the region's healthcare infrastructure. More than 50 medical facilities have been rendered non‑operational, severely limiting access to emergency trauma care, surgeries, maternal services and treatment for chronic illnesses. The World Health Organization reports that most hospitals are either fully shut or only partially functional due to structural damage, power outages and chronic shortages of medical supplies.

Humanitarian access remains highly restricted, with frequent border closures and security challenges hampering the delivery of fuel, vaccines, surgical kits and antibiotics. The degradation of water and sanitation systems has raised the risk of infectious disease outbreaks, including skin, respiratory and diarrheal illnesses. Health workers continue to provide care under harrowing conditions, while international agencies call for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of healthcare facilities under international humanitarian law.

Rebuilding Gaza’s health sector will require extensive financial resources, sustained humanitarian corridors and the restoration of essential utilities such as electricity and clean water.
