Gaza humanitarian catastrophe worsens as Israeli forces expand control

Israeli military operations have extended the self‑designated “yellow demarcation line,” now placing roughly 64% of Gaza under Israeli control. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered troops to seize 70% of the enclave, with a stated goal of complete occupation. The campaign has forced about two million Palestinians into makeshift camps covering 56 square miles along the coast.

The intensive bombing has razed neighborhoods, leaving tens of thousands of residents buried under concrete and rebar. Essential municipal water and sanitation systems have been destroyed, causing raw sewage to flood tents and camps and sparking a public‑health crisis worsened by a blockade on medical supplies. Israeli officials have framed the forced displacement as a “voluntary migration,” while defence minister Israel Katz announced plans for mass expulsion.

Survivors face extreme heat, accumulated trash, disease‑carrying rodents and insects, and severe psychological trauma. Despite the devastation, many Palestinians continue to rebuild and demonstrate resilience amid the ongoing conflict.
