Gaza humanitarian crisis: 94% of residents in need of shelter

The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has reached critical levels, with United Nations agencies reporting that 94 percent of the 2.1 million residents are in need of shelter. Approximately two-thirds of families are living in tents or emergency shelters that are rapidly deteriorating due to extreme weather conditions.

Food insecurity is widespread, with an estimated 1.4 million people—67 percent of the population—facing acute food insecurity, and 10 percent on the brink of famine. Aid distribution has become increasingly unpredictable as humanitarian organizations face funding shortages and restrictions on the entry of materials and equipment.

Essential services are also at risk of collapse. The water supply system faces imminent failure due to a severe fuel shortage; out of approximately 700 generators used to power water systems, only 40 have reportedly received fuel. This shortage threatens access to clean water and basic sanitation for the population.
