Gaza humanitarian crisis deepens as Israel reopens key border crossings
Hamas spokesman Hazim Kasim said that despite the cease‑fire that began on 10 October, Israeli forces continue to kill Palestinians in Gaza, with the Health Ministry reporting 977 deaths and 3,063 injuries since the truce and a total death toll of 72,987 since 7 October. He described the ongoing attacks as a continuation of a "genocide" and called on the UN Security Council, the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to act.
Israel announced that it will reopen the Kerem Shalom crossing on the Israeli‑Egyptian‑Gaza border and allow limited two‑way traffic at the Rafah crossing, coordinating the movements with Egypt and the World Health Organization. The move follows a security assessment and is intended to enable a gradual flow of humanitarian aid, after the crossings were closed in March following joint US‑Israel strikes on Iran.
The reopening aims to ease the humanitarian situation as Gaza faces severe shortages of food, medical supplies and shelter, while fighting and bombardments continue.
