Gaza humanitarian crisis impacts child health and local communities

The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is severely impacting the physical health and daily routines of children. Due to extreme scarcity, children are forced to take on adult responsibilities, such as waking at dawn to collect water in heavy containers. This labor causes physical pain, including back and shoulder injuries, and exhausts the energy that would otherwise be used for education and play.

In addition to the physical toll, the constant struggle for food and water affects children's sleep quality and appetite. Many residents live in makeshift tents or among ruins, facing a daily fight for potable water and electricity.

Within the local Christian community, which consists of approximately 541 Catholics and Orthodox members, the situation is equally dire. Since the start of the conflict, 60 members of this community have died, including 23 from direct military actions and others due to a lack of medical care. Despite these challenges, local parishes continue to provide support, including the use of water cisterns to assist hundreds of families.
