Gaza humanitarian crisis sidelined as US‑Iran talks dominate Middle East focus

Palestinian residents of Gaza say the world has forgotten their humanitarian catastrophe while international media attention shifts to US‑Iran negotiations aimed at ending the broader Middle East war. The conflict, sparked by Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack that killed about 1,200 Israelis, has escalated into a war that Gaza’s health ministry reports has claimed more than 73,000 Palestinian lives and left the Strip largely under Israeli control.

Activist Ahmed Jamali, living in a displaced‑persons camp, told the French agency that “no one remembers Gaza or its tragedy” as the United States and Iran discuss a memorandum of understanding that omits any reference to Gaza. The tentative ceasefire remains fragile, with Israel demanding full disarmament of Hamas before any political settlement, while Hamas refuses to lay down arms without guarantees for a new Palestinian authority. Ongoing diplomatic efforts in Cairo involve Palestinian figures, Hamas officials, and envoys from Qatar and Turkey, but concrete relief for Gaza’s civilian population remains elusive.

The situation underscores a widening gap between high‑level diplomatic maneuvers and the daily reality of thousands of Gaza residents facing death, destruction, and displacement.
