Gaza medical system faces paralysis amid aid shortages and falling evacuations

The healthcare system in the Gaza Strip is facing potential complete paralysis due to severe shortages of medicines, intravenous fluids, and essential medical supplies. Medical officials warn that entire specialties and health institutions may cease operations in the coming days if supplies are not replenished.

According to the Government Media Office in Gaza, aid deliveries have met less than a third of the population's actual needs. Restrictions on crossings continue to limit the entry of life-saving materials, even as the number of casualties increases.

Save the Children reports that child medical evacuations have fallen by 75% compared to the first year of the conflict. While nearly 14,000 Palestinians have been evacuated for treatment since October 2023, the Ministry of Health in Gaza states that 21,000 people, including approximately 5,000 children, are still awaiting evacuation. Many of those who reach Egypt face significant psychological distress and trauma-related conditions.
