Gaza Ministry of Health: Israeli strikes caused 70% of 2025 deaths
A report from the Gaza Ministry of Health reveals that 24,650 deaths were recorded in the Gaza Strip during 2025. Direct Israeli military strikes were responsible for 70.1% of these fatalities.
Other significant causes of death included a lack of healthcare and medical supplies, which accounted for 13.8% of cases, and heart disease, which caused 7.7%. The report noted that 73.4% of the deceased were men, while women made up 26.6% of the total.
Geographically, Gaza City saw the highest mortality rate at 37.3%, followed by North Gaza (20.2%), Khan Yunis (19.5%), Deir al-Balah (12.3%), and Rafah (10.7%).
The Ministry also highlighted a sharp increase in child mortality. The death rate for children under the age of five rose to 33.4 per 1,000 live births in 2025, a significant increase from the 13.6 per 1,000 recorded in 2022. The United Nations has characterized the data provided by the Ministry as reliable.
