Gaza residents stage first anti‑Hamas protests on June 26
On Friday, June 26, hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza marched in a protest against Hamas. The rally was promoted on a Facebook page titled “Revolution of June 26”, reportedly managed by activists linked to Fatah, and called for the removal of Hamas rule.
Organizers said participants faced threats and intimidation from Hamas forces, which were observed trying to deter the demonstration. Protest signs read slogans such as “Hamas out” and “We want to live”. Although the turnout was smaller than expected, it marked the first public anti‑Hamas demonstration in roughly a year.
A Cairo‑based promoter acknowledged that the message was conveyed despite limited numbers, and journalists reported pressure to restrict coverage of the event.
