Gaza sees Hamas dissolve its administration as Israel controls 70% of the territory

Hamas announced the dissolution of its governing body in Gaza and said it is prepared to hand over civilian administration to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG). The NCAG, a technocratic Palestinian body of engineers, economists, lawyers and administrators, was proposed within the U.S.-backed Board of Peace framework and would manage schools, hospitals and public services without Hamas officials.

Nine months after a ceasefire was declared, Israeli forces now control nearly 70% of Gaza, up from about 50% at the start of the ceasefire, according to Israeli officials and maps shared with aid groups. The expansion of Israeli control has occurred despite the ceasefire branding, and the situation continues to shape the humanitarian and political landscape of the enclave.
