Gaza and West Bank: Human rights groups urge EU settlement trade ban
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have called on the European Union to ban trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. The advocacy comes as the death toll in Gaza approaches 74,000, with groups urging the EU to revive proposals to suspend the trade component of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
In Gaza, recent Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks have killed at least seven people, including a 15-year-old and an 8-year-old child. These fatalities occurred across various locations, including Jabalia and Khan Younis. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that one of the deceased was a Hamas commander from the Rafah Brigade. Health authorities report that 1,375 Palestinians have been killed since the implementation of the October ceasefire, indicating ongoing violence despite the truce.
In the West Bank, tensions are also rising. UN data indicates that over 1,600 settler attacks were recorded between January and August 2026, affecting 275 Palestinian communities. Additionally, Israeli military raids in the West Bank have resulted in deaths and numerous arrests of Palestinians.
