Gaza Strip faces escalating malnutrition and military casualties
The Gaza Strip continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis characterized by high mortality rates from both military action and malnutrition. UNICEF reports that at least 165 children have died from malnutrition-related causes during the conflict. The nutritional crisis is particularly acute among pregnant women, with 38% diagnosed with acute malnutrition between July and September 2025.
Medical data indicates a rising trend in low-birth-weight infants. While approximately 5% of births in Gaza were low-weight in 2022, this figure rose to 10% in the first half of 2025, and reached an average of 460 babies per month during the third quarter of 2025. Low birth weight significantly increases infant mortality risks.
