Gaza Strip faces continued strikes and rising water pollution

Ongoing Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip continue to cause casualties despite a ceasefire agreement in place since October 2025. In the Tel Al-Hawa district of Gaza City, an Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle resulted in at least two Palestinian deaths and 13 injuries. The Israeli military stated the target was two Hamas members.

In Khan Younis, southern Gaza, further attacks reportedly killed one Palestinian and wounded 13 others, including children. While the ceasefire, supported by the United States, has halted large-scale combat, both Hamas and Israel have accused the other of violating the terms. Since the ceasefire began, health authorities report over 1,300 Palestinian deaths, mostly civilians, while the Israeli military reports four soldier fatalities.

Beyond the kinetic conflict, a severe humanitarian crisis is unfolding due to environmental degradation. The destruction of wastewater infrastructure has led to sewage discharging directly into the sea, turning coastal waters dark brown. Displaced Palestinians living in tents along the coast are forced to use this contaminated water for swimming and survival, posing significant health risks. Efforts are reportedly underway to restart wastewater treatment plants to mitigate the pollution.
