Gaza Strip faces massive casualties and destruction

The humanitarian and physical devastation in the Gaza Strip continues to escalate. Since October 2023, more than 73,000 Palestinians have died, approximately 173,000 have been injured, and 1.9 million people have been forcibly displaced.

Despite a fragile ceasefire agreement reached in October, military operations have persisted. A United Nations report from August 10 indicates that in July alone, Israeli forces killed approximately 160 Palestinians. UN experts noted that many of these deaths occurred in densely populated displacement zones, such as Al-Mawasi, involving women, children, and the elderly. The report emphasized that “no place in Gaza is safe.”

The scale of destruction includes the loss of schools, universities, libraries, and religious sites. Beyond the material ruins, experts highlight the immense challenge of psychological and social reconstruction required to heal the Gazan society following the widespread trauma and loss of cultural memory.
