United Nations demands Gaza access after discovery of hundreds of bodies
The United Nations has called for international investigators to be granted access to the Gaza Strip to collect evidence following the discovery of hundreds of bodies and human remains among building ruins. UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk expressed concern that the recovered remains, which include many women and children, may represent only the “tip of the iceberg” of the total casualties.
According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, more than 630 bodies and human remains have been retrieved from beneath destroyed buildings since November 2025. Authorities estimate that over 8,000 people remain missing under the rubble.
Türk also accused Israeli forces of continuing to use heavy machinery and bulldozers to level areas under their control without regard for the deceased remains trapped beneath the debris. The UN human rights office emphasized the need for systematic efforts to identify victims and preserve forensic evidence.
