Gaza war causes deep family separation and widespread destruction
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has caused profound personal devastation, leading to widespread family separations and the destruction of entire communities. Families have been split apart as members seek medical treatment abroad, often resulting in long-term separation between parents and children.
In one instance, a mother was forced to relocate to Egypt with her eight children to seek medical care for injuries sustained during an Israeli strike, while her husband remained in Gaza with limited mobility. Similarly, humanitarian workers returning to the territory after receiving medical treatment in Egypt have reported seeing utter devastation, with streets and landmarks unrecognizable due to the scale of destruction.
Civic organizations, such as the Wefaq Society for Women and Child Care, continue to operate under extreme risk, attempting to support women and girls despite the loss of offices and resources. Many displaced residents now live in tents, facing an uncertain future amidst the widespread destruction of housing and infrastructure.
