Turkey agricultural harvest shows mixed yields and pricing

Agricultural harvesting is underway across various regions in Turkey, showing mixed results in yield and pricing. In the Bafra Plain, kapya pepper production has faced challenges; despite a 10% increase in planting areas, yields have dropped by approximately 25-30% due to excessive rain, cold weather, and disease. Producers also report significant price drops and allegations that factories are delaying purchases to drive prices down.

In contrast, sunflower seed harvesting in Kahramanmaraş is seeing positive outcomes. Abundant rainfall has improved both quality and yield, with an expected harvest of 7,000 to 10,000 tons. Farmers report satisfaction with the crop quality, noting that sunflower seeds have become a viable alternative due to lower input costs and drought resistance.

Other notable developments include the rising production of aronia, a ‘super fruit,’ in Gümüşhane’s Kürtün district, where yields are expected to reach up to 75 tons. Additionally, in Gaziantep, the seasonal production of pepper paste is in full swing, with facilities processing approximately 30 tons of peppers daily to meet winter demand.
