Gaziantep City Hospital treats two siblings for heart defects

Two siblings from Van, Yusuf Tuna Şahin (12) and Ahsen Havvanur Şahin (6), underwent successful simultaneous treatment for Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) at Gaziantep City Hospital.

The procedure was initiated after Yusuf Tuna fainted at school, leading to the discovery of a 13-millimeter hole in his heart. Due to concerns regarding familial predisposition, doctors also examined his sister, Ahsen, and discovered an identical 13-millimeter defect.

Led by Associate Professor Dr. Münevver Tuğba Temel, medical teams used catheters inserted through the groin to reach the heart. The defects were closed using specialized devices via an angioplasty method, avoiding the need for open-heart surgery. Both children were discharged in good health one day after the procedure.
