Gaziantep mayor launches 453,000‑ton asphalt overhaul and pest‑control program
During the June 2026 council meeting of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Mayor Fatma Şahin announced a large‑scale road‑renovation plan. The program will use 453,000 tonnes of hot asphalt to refurbish 283 km of city roads, including 66 main streets and 90 specific sites. An additional 150 km of surface‑coating work is scheduled, and central districts will receive over 75,800 tonnes of asphalt for patching.
Rural road upgrades will extend high‑standard paving to village‑group roads, covering a total network of 941 km, of which 265 km has already been completed. The municipality also outlined post‑Eid al‑Adha pest‑control operations, deploying 40 vehicles and 110 specialised staff to treat the entire city.
Deputy Secretary‑General Gazi Kördeve presented the technical details, emphasizing the need to replace infrastructure built 15‑20 years ago and to meet growing fiber‑optic and urban‑mobility demands.
